MANSFIELD THEN MANCHESTER
Liverpool will be playing against Mansfield Town in the third round of the FA Cup ahead of the trip to Manchester United during the weekend.
Hence, there has been a suggestion that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will be resting a number of key players in order to preserve his players ahead of the crucial match. Brendan Rodgers, though, has said that he will be making no major changes to the team because he thinks of the match against Mansfield in the same breath as the match against Manchester United.
Liverpool come on the match on the back of a recent good run of form, which has seen them suffer only one defeat in the last four matches. As a result, they have been able to climb up into the top half of the table after a long time.
Rodgers will be extremely keen to continue this good form. The match against Mansfield is likely to see the debut appearance of the former Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge, who was signed only a few days ago for £ 12 million. The 23-year-old is lacking match fitness due to more than two months of injury problems, but he is expected to start ahead of Luis Suarez.
“We have prepared exactly the same for Mansfield as we would Manchester United. I don’t think you can under prepare because that’s when it can shoot you in the foot. They are a team that play 4-4-1-1, they’re direct, they have a centre-half that throws it into the box a mile, they’re organised. They sit ninth in the league, four points off a play-off position. Our homework has been complete and full so we don’t underestimate them,” said Rogers. After lot of struggles early in the campaign, the club are currently having 31 points on the board and are just a few behind Arsenal.
